Who is the Unknown Soldier

There are three United States Unknown Soldiers. They are buried in the Tomb of the Unknowns, which is a Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery, just outside of Washington, D.C.

It was on Nov. 11, 1921 that the first soldier, an unidentified man who was killed in France during World War I, was buried in the tomb. His burial was followed by two more unknown soldiers; one killed in World War II and the other killed in the Korean War.

There was a fourth man who died in the Vietnam War and was buried in the tomb in 1984, however his remains were removed after his identity was later discovered because of advances in forensic DNA analysis.

The Pentagon announced in 1999, that no new remains would be placed in the memorial.
