Baby Boom Generation: Luck of the Draw for some and not others

The baby boom generation consists of people born from 1946 to 1964. As it is true, for all generations, when and where you were born dictates, many of the experiences, influences advantages and opportunities of your life.

The idea of a level playing field that some have sold us as propaganda is so untrue and unfair. It is gaslighting  many people and tells them that everything is their fault when it is not.

What were some of the advantages afforded the baby boom generation? Post war America was a time of relative stability in some respects., while being a place of protest and discontent at the same time.

For the most part being born at this time was what is called a “geographical lottery” with immense historical advantages in America during this time following the victory of World War II.

List of key advantages for the baby boom generation:

  • Economic Prosperity
  • Home ownership in the suburbs
  • The GI Bill (aka the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act)
  • Technological and Social Growth:
  • Low Cost of Living

It must be told that there was a significant difference in advantages between those who were white and those who were black as well as for women and minorities of all races:

“Racial Wealth Gap: According to a study on the U.S. racial wealth gap by National Bureau of Economic Research | NBER, the Black-white wealth gap was roughly 6-to-1 in the early 1960s. Another source indicates that in 1968, white middle-class families had an average wealth of around \(\$71,000\), while Black middle-class families had roughly \(\$6,600\), a gap of more than 10 times”
