Most people do not know the origin, of this very popular quote.

It can be found in German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche’s 1888 book, Twilight of the Idols (German: Götzen-Dämmerung).

Friedrich Nietzsche is known to have suffered much pain in his life; both physically and psychologically. So, in a way, Nietzsche earned the right to comment on the life experience of pain.
