    On September 17, 1787, The Constitution of the United States was signed by 39 state delegates in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania; the city that served as the central meeting place for the Founding Fathers: 

    The Constitutional Convention

    ”In all, 55 delegates attended the Constitutional Convention sessions, but only 39 actually signed the Constitution.” Founding Documents

    The original purpose was to revise The Articles of Confederation, which was the first constitution written after The Revolutionary War with Great Britain in 1777.
