Nazi Propaganda

Hitler and the Nazi Party seized power in 1933. They wasted no time before creating the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. The leader assigned to head this organization was Joseph Goebbels.

The Nazi message was pushed through and saturated every facet of life in Germany; to include for example: education, music, theatre, radio, books, art, films, books, and the press.

What was it like in the daily life of Germany during the rule of Hitler and the Nazi party.

There was a promise and appeal in Hitler’s claim that he would achieve full employment. Another aim and promise was for autarky.  The meaning of autarky was German self-sufficiency; this attempt was, as time would tell, an unsuccessful effort and plan.

The success of the propaganda campaign was largely due to the state of Germany following World War l and the Great Depression. Germany was particularly devastated by the crash of Wall Street in 1929. Its dependence on American loans was devastating in that the loans were recalled. Full employment fell from twenty million in 1929, to just over eleven million in 1933.  This resulted in great poverty for many.

Between 1933-1939 those in Germany lived out life under a  time of persecution.

Policies of persecution included sterilization, the murder of those with disabilities and other vulnerable minorities, and the establishment of concentration camps.

The culmination of the the Nazi solution was to target, demonize, isolate, remove to camps, and ultimately eliminate the Jewish people. This resulted in the murder of millions of Jewish souls. Hitler’s Rule

“Remember history, lest we forget” is a common phrasing of a warning by Spanish-American philosopher George Santayana: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”
